Little Drama King

It must be incredibly rough to be 2 years old. You get to play all day long, all your meals are prepared for you, and you can nap every day. What? That doesn't sound rough? Reilly seems to think it's very hard.
We have had much drama from him lately...big yelling tantrums, complete with kicking and screaming and throwing things. It's so pleasant. I especially like it when he melts down first thing in the morning. He is a bear to get up (just like his mama, I will admit) and just wants to go back to sleep. This of course leads to the struggle to put clothes on him, followed by the struggle to put shoes on. I find myself creating all kinds of silly bribes and promises just to get him to cooperate. This morning it involved promising hours of play with Mr Potato Head when he gets home from school.
I know it's just part of the age, but it gets frustrating. You know what makes it all slip away though? When he crawls into my lap and says "Mommy, I want to snuggle".

Spring Fever

The last 2 days we have had the most beautiful weather - perfect for playing outside. Yesterday afternoon Bobby and I sat on the front porch and read while Reilly ran around the front yard. He has a lot of outdoor toys, but his current favorite seems to be his scooter, which he does pretty well on. Even more exciting, just this week he figured out how to ride his tricycle all by himself! He got the trike for his 2nd birthday but hasn't used it a whole lot until now. But all of a sudden...boom! he gets it and he is off, pedaling away and ringing the bell. He needs a little push to get going sometimes, but he gets better every time he rides...I'm so proud!
Today is Thursday, which has become my favorite day of the week...it's the day the maids come! I took Reilly in the backyard to play while they cleaned. He had so much fun shooting baskets and playing with all the balls back there. But his favorite thing to play with was ...a stick! I don't know what it is about little boys and sticks, but he played with one for over half an hour. He also had fun just running in circles, getting the dogs to chase after him. I wish I was so easily amused!

The best time of day...

Ever since Reilly has been sleeping in a regular bed, instead of a crib, he likes to have snuggle time at night. I lay down in his bed with him, and we snuggle and talk about his day. I have been unable to go up and down the stairs since my surgery 7 weeks ago, and I have really missed our nightly snuggle. Bobby has done a good job taking over snuggle duties, but I just love that time of day.
Tonight Bobby has been having some sort of work-related problems and has been on the phone since he got home. He put Reilly to bed, but Reilly was having a hard time going to sleep. So I literally crawled up the stairs and went into Reilly's room for some snuggle time. It was great! At one point, I told him "goodnight monkey" and he looked at me, smiled sleepily, and said in the sweetest little voice "goodnight mama". Then he snuggled up closer to me. It actually made me tear up...I'm such a sap sometimes!

Cow Sticks and Keyokeyo

The last few weeks have been fairly uneventful. I am still slowly recovering from my foot surgery, Reilly has been going to school, and Bobby has been doing whatever it is that Bobby does all day...even after almost 8 years together, his job is still somewhat of a mystery to me. So not too much to write about, hence the lack of blog entries.

This morning Bobby decided that him and Reilly were going to brave the yucky rainy day and head over to Gonzales, where there is an outlet mall and a Cabellas. Reilly has been asking for a fishing pole, so that was the alleged point of the trip (even though we could just go to k-mart, but whatever). So off the boys went for a few hours. They did come home with a fishing pole, as well as new crocs for Reilly and 8 new pairs of pajamas. I had mentioned that Reilly needed new jammies for summer, as he has outgrown everything from last year. I didn't mean that he needed 8 pairs, but I guess he will be set for a while now, LOL.

They also came back with one of those horse head on a stick things...I'm not quite sure what the technical name for it is, but Reilly has been having fun galloping around on it. For some reason, he is calling it his cow stick, even though it makes horse noises and you ride it like a horse. But, a cow stick it shall be called.

Pinocchio was relesed on DVD this week. I already had the DVD, from last time it was released, but I don't think Reilly had ever watched it. Of course it has been advertised on TV every 5 minutes, so Reilly has been asking about it. I knew it was going to rain this afternoon, so I told him that we would watch it today. Right now, he is curled up on the couch watching "Keyokeyo" as he says, and seems to be enjoying it. I grew up on all these old Disney movies, so I love to see him watching them too.

Beware the pond sharks!

The following conversation took place this evening, while Reilly and I were playing on my bed

Reilly: This is the corn (as he puts a pillow over my head; I am lying face down and he is sitting on my back)
Me: Why are you putting corn on me?
Reilly: To keep you warm. So the sharks don't bite you.
Me: Sharks?
Reilly: The sharks in the pond.

Ahhhh, of course, one should always wear corn to stay warm and fend off the pond sharks. Got it.
