Mommy and Reilly day

For the first 14 months of Reilly's life, I was a stay at home mom. Simply put, it was heaven. I miss spending all my days watching him learn and grow. I have gotten used to working, and I know that he loves his school, but I still miss those early days. This morning, Bobby left fairly early, to go run some errands and get new glasses (that part didn't happen, but that's another story). So we had Mommy and Reilly day here at the house.
We watched all his favorite TV shows...Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, Imagination Movers, Handy Manny, all the usuals. Then we played with his dinosaurs and had lunch together. A while later, we snuggled up together in my bed and both fell asleep. I woke up when Bobby got home, but Reilly was out for a few hours.
Bobby decided that he wanted to go see a movie, so we had more Mommy and Reilly time tonight. We shared some chicken nuggets, watched Snow White, and just had a lovely time. Usually if I have Reilly for a whole day, we do a lot of running around, but since I am still on the mend, so we had to just hang out around the house. Reilly has been pretty tired all week too, I think he is still recovering from all the activity of Mardi Gras, so I wanted to give him some time to just chill out and relax. I think we both had a great time today!

I'm a slacker

OK, I have been slacking on my promise to myself to keep this blog updated. To be honest, there just hasn't been that much going on around here. Reilly spent most of the last few days at the parade with his Daddy. Since I am out of commission this Mardi Gras, I have spent all that time at home by myself (sniff, sniff). But I think they have both been having fun spending the extra time together, so that is the silver lining in all of this.
Tomorrow is Fat Tuesday. Every year on Mardi Gras day, Bobby and I would get up early and head uptown to watch Rex. We would go to the parade, then bring beads to his grandmother, who lived right off the parade route. We lost Gammy right after Reilly was born, but we still go watch the parade in the same spot, with the same people Bobby has been watching Rex with since he was a little boy. Now Reilly comes with us too, and I love that this is a family tradition we can pass on to him. So bright and early tomorrow, the two of them are going to head uptown and see Rex. I just wonder how I am going to explain to Reilly after tomorrow why there are no more parades???

Here comes Mardi Gras...

This weekend, in addition to being Valentine's Day, was also the kickoff to Carnival season. Friday night Bobby took Reilly to the parades uptown, which he loved...he came telling me all about the floats and the beads. Unfortunately, I am recovering from foot surgery and won't be doing any Mardi Gras stuff this year. I am not a huge MG person, but we have certain traditions that we do every year, and I am sad to be missing that. This is also the first year that Reilly will really "get" Mardi Gras, and seeing pictures of him at parades, etc. is not the same as seeing that look of wonder and excitement on his face in person. So, I am kind of a sad momma right now.
For the past few years, Bobby has been riding in the Krewe of Babylon parade. This afternoon was their annual float preview party, where the Krewe members and their families can come see all the floats in advance of the parade. Bobby took Reilly, and it seems like he had a good time.

Happy Heart Day

Happy Valentine's Day! I woke up this morning to a sweet little voice saying "Happy Valentine's Day Mommy"...what could be better??? Bobby was gone for a good part of the day, so I spent it with my other valentine. We made cards for Bobby and Pawpaw (Bobby's dad) and Reilly insisted that we make a card for his puppies too. Such a sweet boy, and he loves his dogs so much, even the one who is not so fond of him. We colored and read books, watched Sesame Street, and had lunch together. Then naptime rolled around, so we snuggled up together in my bed and both took a nap. Pretty much a perfect way to spend the day.
Bobby had come home during naptime, so when everyone woke up, we all opened our Valentine's cards and I gave Reilly his gift, a stuffed Snoopy. Some yummy jambalaya for dinner, and it was time for little man to go to bed. So now my main valentine and I are lying in bed, each on our laptop, with a pack of dogs between us. Ahhh, romance!

Is the third time the charm?

OK, this is my third attempt to start a family blog...maybe this time I can stick with it. It seems like every day Reilly gets bigger and smarter and more independent. I wish I could slow down time and keep him this age forever! He's so funny and silly...always making me laugh.
